What do we confirm before spending the first pound?
- Billing: I don't know in advance whether Meta and TikTok can be reached and paid in your case, and that's the first test. Sudan also isn't on the list of countries Snap lets you target.
- Compliance: the comprehensive sanctions regime was revoked in October 2017, but targeted conflict designations continue through 2026, so we review the parties before starting.
- Delivery: fuel in the Khartoum region rose 66.7% according to a Mercy Corps report, and I don't know of confirmed working couriers, so that's a question for your local partner.
- Profit sense: if the pound moves fast (about 3,000 per dollar in mid-2025), does your margin cover an ad cost priced in foreign currency?
Collecting through apps alongside cash
The market is cash-based at heart, but cash shortages pushed part of trade to bank apps in some areas: Bankak, Fawry and O-Cash. There are also payment plugins such as MyCashi and SyberPay that rely on a receipt screenshot. That means orders need manual review, so knowing the order count isn't enough. You need to know how many had payment confirmed. News headlines reported Bankak outages in September 2026, so don't make it your only option.
One channel with published numbers
DataReportal publishes 6.06 million in ad reach for TikTok, out of 14.9 million internet users, with no numbers for Meta platforms. Ecommerce is very small, with one estimate placing it between 0 and 5% of retail, so the start should be small and calculated. See TikTok ads management and many orders and still losing money.
